Deutscher Juristentag e.V. – Association of German Jurists

Short profile

Scope of the association:

Founded in 1860, the Association of German Jurists decided to dissolve in 1933 when the National Socialism took power. It was refounded in 1949.

Since far more than a hundred years, the association intends to give on a scientific basis and with political and ideological neutrality impulses for the development of the legal system in all fields of law and to offer a forum of discussion for all jurists.

For this purpose, since 1860 the Association of German Jurists organizes the German Jurists Forums (Deutsche Juristentage), which are held every two years in a different city in Germany. These important conventions with between 2.500 and 3.500 participants are open for any interested person. The next convention, the 73rd German Jurists Forum, will take place from 16 to 18 september 2020 in Hamburg.

Members:

The Association of German Jurists has about 5.000 members of all legal professions. The membership is open for all jurists who have passed the first state law examination in Germany as well as for law students at German law faculties. Jurists from other countries are also welcome.

Presidency:

The association is governed by its executive committee which has 24 members of all legal professions, elected by the members for six years. They may be reelected once. The committee is presided by Prof. Dr. Mathias Habersack.
